About Anthargange Temple

At the base of the Anthargange trek, nestled amidst the picturesque landscape, lies a significant religious site that adds a spiritual dimension to the adventure: the Anthargange Temple. This temple holds a special place in the hearts of devotees and trekkers alike, offering a serene retreat and a glimpse into the region’s cultural heritage.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is believed to have been established centuries ago by sage Agastya, a revered figure in Hindu mythology known for his wisdom and spiritual prowess. Over the years, the temple has served as a place of worship and pilgrimage for devotees seeking blessings and divine intervention.
The architecture of the Anthargange Temple reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region. Built in the traditional Dravidian style, the temple features intricate carvings, vibrant sculptures, and ornate pillars that showcase the craftsmanship of the artisans who crafted it. The sanctum sanctorum houses the main deity, a sacred lingam representing Lord Shiva, while the outer courtyard provides space for devotees to offer prayers and perform rituals.
For trekkers embarking on the Anthargange trek, the temple serves as both a starting point and a point of interest along the way. Before setting out on the trail, many visitors pay their respects at the temple and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva for a safe and successful hike.

Anthargange Trek Experience

Anthargange is renowned for its unique geological formations, characterized by a series of volcanic rocks and boulders. The trek starts with a moderate ascent through rocky terrain, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. As you delve deeper into the trail, you’ll encounter cave formations formed by the volcanic activity ages ago. These caves are perfect for exploration and provide a cool respite from the sun.It took about an hour plus for us to reach the caves. We crossed through the rocky boulders, muddy trails and granite steps to reach the caves. There the real adventure begins once you reach the caves. The natural geological formations, huge boulders, and dark and dense caves make the trek experience exciting.
We started early in the morning around 4 am to reach the base of the trek. We booked our tickets in advance at Karnataka Eco Tourism. The government guide was waiting for us and we started our trek quickly.
Pro Tip: The trek comes under the Karnataka Forest Department hence you need to buy online tickets well in advance. The trek is NOT DIY.
